Judy Markell and Barbara Warner, Co-Directors of Nurse Navigators, paddled for cancer research on May 3, 2014 at the Dragon Boat Festival held at Portman Marina, Anderson. They paddled on teams from the Center for Integrative Oncology and Survivorship (CIOS) of the GHS Cancer Institute. The festival was a huge success raising $350,000 for cancer research. Barbara and Judy are teaching healthcare professionals about the benefits of integrating complementary/alternative practices with conventional Western medicine made possible by a grant through the GHS Office of Philanthropy and Partnership.

In their hometown, Judy and Barbara volunteered through the Womens’ Leadership Council (WLC) of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce to facilitate middle schoolers from three districts to experience golf. On Monday, May 5, 250 local eighth grade boys and girls participated in hands-on golf instruction for putting, chipping, and driving with Symetra Tour professional women golfers.  This was one of the events connected with the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic at the Stoney Point Golf Club, Greenwood, SC. Over $200,000 has been raised thus far for the community healthcare services.
